Santa Monica is a long way from Thailand, but Pot and Pancreates a palpable link to that lush Southeast Asian corner of the world.Subtly lighted, its air is punctuated with delicate and exotic cookingscents. Many of the Thai-speaking patrons exchange pleasantries with thestaff in their native language. Stunning photographs and artifacts from theregion seal the connection.The simple elegance of the decor carries over to the beautifully prepared,beautifully presented food. Diners at this restaurant are ordered from aneasy-to-follow menu, choosing from among noodle and rice dishes and variousentrees. Curries and stir-fried meals are well-represented. Dishes aremarked by degree of spiciness, but the kitchen aims to please and adjuststhe heat according to individual preferences. Pot and Pan also servesvegetarian dishes. Yukon Mining Company

It's 2 a.m. The clubs have closed, but you're still the social butterfly. And you're hungry.

The "Yukon Mining Company", one of West Hollywood's longstanding guilty pleasures, might just hit the spot. Sit out the lingering haze from one too many rounds, indulge in affordable, comfort foods like ham and cheese omelets, eggs, burgers, fries or fried chicken, sample the eye-candy spillover from the neighborhood dance floors, or tank up for after-hours dancing here.

Open 24-7, this friendly restaurant and coffee shop servers up garden variety American diner fare and home-style entrees. The door, which pushes the California Gold-rush theme with dark, rustic wood, seems to suit the diner mood and food.

Expect some delays in service and food during the post-2 a.m. rush following club evictions. But few late-nighters seem to mind this, given the friendly wait staff, table mining and phone number exchanges that go on.

The Yukon Mining Company is open 24 hours daily. Lot parking is plentiful. Smoking is permitted on a side patio.

Ummba Grill

Hungry Pocket

While the aptly named Hungry Pocket may not stand up to the competition on Ben Yehuda Street, it does a wrap-up job on Pico Blvd. Fresh falafel, homemade carrot juice and baklava good enough to write home about are specials here everyday of the week. The week is the best time to hit this unassuming stand, however, as the kind owner does not lend his falafel-making expertise on the weekends and his employees tend to be a bit heavy-handed with the hot pepper. For less than $5 , expect an authentic Middle Eastern sandwich on the coast of Southern California.

This is a great hole-in-the-wall restaurant that cooks its food right in front of you. The gyros here are sumptious. The chicken kabob is moist and tender. The hot sauce is a wonderful compliment to the food. Also try the fresh squeezed juice - the drinks are hand squeezed and incredibly frothy. The service is friendly and you can get a filling meal for very cheap. The restaurant is not very big but rest assured, you'll be very satisfied!

Few things that come in ball form are as wonderful as Hungry Pocket's falafel balls. You get about 3 or 4 freshly made balls in a pita stuffed with lettuce and tomato, which I find to have a little too much "salad" but that's just me. It is topped with their tasty tahini sauce and it will fill you up for $3.50, that is if you are a petite girl such as myself, a larger man may want to order two. Or you could go on Mondays or Wednesday's and have all you can eat for $6.50. I also had their gyro's which are decent and more expensive ($4.75) than their bally friends, I prefer the falafel as gyro's with tahini sauce just aren't as tasty as those with tzastiki, which HP does not have. The food is strictly middle eastern, no Greek flavors here, which includes the baklava which is an amazing sweet blend of honey, nuts and rose water and tastes little like the Greek version which personally I think pales in comparison to HP's.

With Executive Chef Christine Banta still guiding the kitchen, and famed restaurant designer Margaret O'Brien (recent winner of Angeleno's Best Restaurant Design for Republic) back to recreate the new restaurant, Café La Boheme will provide great food that can be enjoyed in a more casual environment. "The menu will be multi-faceted-lots of choices, from entrees to hot and clod appetizers and noodles and rice dishes," explains Banta. With a classical French background, but coming from a Japanese/American family, Banta's menu will reflect her many influences. "We've stripped things down this time around," she explains. "The plating will be more rustic and less technical, but definitely still beautiful. Presentation is important, but food is definitely the focus."

His former restaurant on Montana, Casa Monica, was a standard for fine Italian cuisine for years.

Now, step inside the new Montana restaurant and serenity reigns in the spare yet stylish interior. It is remarkably comfortable.

The emphasis is on the food. The cuisine's strength lies in the use of local ingredients with minimal fuss, stressing the seasonal flavors.

The menu features salads and pasta, as well as pesce del giorno; specialties are offered daily. The bread is freshly baked daily on the premises.

Coley's Caribbean-American Cuisine

In 1968, the indomitable Donald Coley migrated to Brooklyn, New York, filled with flaming enthusiasm and enervated with faith in his future. He had spent his life in Jamaica pursuing various occupations but always cherished the dream to operate his own business. After acquiring multiple skills in Brooklyn, Donald moved to California in 1980. It was in Los Angeles that he realized that it was time to implement his dream. He saw the need for a fine Jamaican restaurant, one that would serve authentic Jamaican cuisine in a relaxing Caribbean atmosphere. Coley's restaurant was enthusiastically received and the customer base expanded rapidly. There was an ever-increasing demand for the unique, flavorful Jamaican cuisine that was served daily at the restaurant and through their popular catering services. Through personal references and promotions, and increased interest in traveling to Jamaica, people came from all over Southern California--even from as far away as San Diego--to enjoy traditional specialties such as escoveitched fish, curried goat, curried chicken, jerk chicken, oxtail, meat patties, fried plantain, festival bread, tropical beverages, and desserts succulently prepared to satisfy the heartiest of appetites. Coley's features a daily lunch buffet, Friday night dinner buffet, and a special champagne brunch.
